Colisée Béton-Provincial - Matane
A major project our whole team can be proud of
In 2010, after a significant makeover, the Centre sportif Alain-Côté became the Colisée Béton-Provincial. Habitat was proud to be able to contribute to this major 15-million-dollar project for the Ville de Matane, and to deliver the project on budget and on time. The improvements made to Matane’s arena encourage the town’s population to engage in a healthy lifestyle, and what’s more, there’s now a venue where the town can enjoy sporting and social events! The arena is located in downtown Matane and is made up of two modules. The project posed several significant challenges, including the risk of a $400,000 penalty if the project wasn’t completed on time, which would have meant losing a $400,000 grant for the Ville de Matane and potentially causing the town’s hockey players to miss their entire season. As far as we could see, the only way to deliver the project on time was to reverse the schedule. We suggested starting with the existing building and finishing with the new Olympic-size rink. Our suggestion was approved. We were tasked with renovating the first module, which comprised a North American-sized 17,000 sq. ft. rink, changing rooms, a dining area, ticket booths, technical areas and offices, and adding on a nursing station. The second module needed to be demolished and rebuilt to include a 460-seat arena with a 20,000 sq. ft. Olympic-sized rink. The Colisée Béton-Provincial is the only sporting facility of its size in the RMC of La Matanie. The renovated building now better meets the needs of its users (hockey teams, speed-skating club, figure skating club, schools, etc.).
